Bradenton is the county seat of Manatee County, sitting on the south bank of the Manatee River roughly midway between Tampa and Sarasota along U.S. 41. The county itself was created back in 1855, and the city was incorporated in 1903 — spelled "Braidentown" on its early post office paperwork, then "Bradentown," before the modern "Bradenton" spelling settled in during 1925.
